Hi, I’m currently on chapter 5 of the Michel Thomas French Foundation course. I am a native speaker in English and Mandarin. My father speaking to me in only English, and my mother in only Mandarin as a child. So I am by nature a linguist. I personally love the course so far. I think it is great fun, and my French is soaring. My dad speaks French fluently, as well as English (he is European). So I am constantly speaking to him in French. He thinks my French is improving very quickly. With his instruction and the use of the Michel Thomas course I would say (after 1 month of learning) that I’m at a B1 level. Not bad for just starting if I do say so myself.

I didn’t see any references to TV5Monde, http://www.tv5monde.org, although primarily a French language TV channel, it also has a lot of educational aspects, check out the “7 jours sur la planète” which has audiovisual exercises that change subject each week. Good for developing an ear for spoken french.

Unfortunately I cannot speak french but would have loved to be a fly on the wall at the recent world cup match when the French lost to the Bafana Bafana. I can just imagine the french language being blue in the dressing room.

I am learning french at the present time. I am particularly interested in french language dvds as I find this method of learning much easier.
